Need a good reason to upgrade to Oracle Database? I'll give you seventy five!
A few times a year, I'm asked to update the Oracle Database Reference Booklet. Each time, the number of customers benefiting from upgrading to the Oracle Database grows. Read for yourself how an airline cut analysis time for travel partner bookings from 10
hours to 10 minutes, helping staff develop better informed partner
sales and marketing strategies. Or how a bank completed their database upgrade without disruption to
their day-to-day operations and minimized system downtime for more than 2
million customers, who expect around the clock services.
Table scans from application
We have an application where delete statement is taking a long time. When I see the v$session_longops the sql statement is doing a full table scan. But when I do an explain plan on the delete statement it uses the index. The statement is "delete tablename where column_name =:B1". I am new to Oracle any ideas how I should proceed.
Thanks,
SK

Working with the OpenStack Code Review and CI system – Chef Edition
For too long, the state of the OpenStack Chef world had been one of duplicative effort, endless forks of Chef cookbooks, and little integration with how many of the OpenStack projects choose to control source code and integration testing. Recently, however, the Chef + OpenStack community has been getting its proverbial act together. Folks from lots of companies have come together and pushed to align efforts to produce a set of well-documented, flexible, but focused Chef cookbooks that install and configure OpenStack services.

SLOB: PL/SQL Commit Optimization
I ran some SLOB tests over the weekend using the new SLOBv2 kit and noticed some interesting results. I was using SLOB to generate physical I/O but the “anomaly” is best demonstrated by putting SLOB in “Logical I/O mode”, i.e.

Recently, there was a discussion on forums about when a Snapshot controlfile is created. It is known that the snapshot controlfile is created to re-synchronise with the Catalog.
But in my test database environment, I don't use a Catalog. I only use the controlfile (and backups of it).

There are 2 PL/SQL packages for performing data mining/predictive analytics in Oracle. The main PL/SQL package is DBMS_DATA_MINING. This package allows you to build data mining models and to apply them to new data. But there is another PL/SQL package.
