Resolution: WebLogic server performance degradation

By Roddy Rodstein 07/01/2016
This post is applicable to WebLogic on Oracle Linux, and Red hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 with performance degradation.

Back in 2010, and again in 2015, and 2016 we had customers experiecing performance degradation on WebLogic servers on Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 due to the 'rngd' Random Number generator daemon not being part of the standrad server build. Specifically hosts without KVM (Keyboard, Video, Monitor) cause problems if 'rngd' is not active. The resolution is to verify that Random Number Generator /dev/urandom daemon 'rngd' is installed and active.

As root verfiy that the rng-tools have been installed:
rpm -qa rng-tools
rng-tools-5-2.el6_7.x86_64
Next, query the rngd service:
service rngd status
To start the rngd service, execute the following command:
service rngd start
